Want to woo the woman in your life with a great meal? Take some cookery classes to find out how!
Cookery classes frequently attract a larger number of female students than males. Maybe a lot of men are already expert in the kitchen and therefore don’t need to learn any more culinary skills. But there are certainly a fair number of men I know that would benefit greatly from a small bit of expert tuition.
Many cookery schools have identified the need to tailor courses to the skills of men, and make the process of cooking accessible to men who may not be familiar with the inner workings of their own kitchen. Several schools offer intensive day-long classes or workshops designed specifically and sometimes only, for male participants. As men like to have a focus for any activity and prefer to have a firm end point in mind, this style of course frequently has a specific menu in mind, with a clear theme and style of food to be explored. The general objective of the day is to be able to create an entire meal, with a starter, main course and desert that will gel nicely together and provide a good balance for the palate.
I have read about men enrolling in such courses in groups, and even some more refined gentlemen signing up as part of the activities of a stag weekend. While it might be tricky to find a large number of your immediate circle who are willing and keen to explore their inner chef, you will probably find a few friends who would be happy to have the moral support of those they know when venturing into the culinary unknown.
Check out what different cookery schools have to offer. This may mean you discover venues not so close to where you live, but this is ok when you are only signing up for a day. Pay attention to the type of food they will be teaching you about and make sure it suits you. There is little point attending a course focusing on fish if you are a die-hard meat eater. You may think the fish idea would be great if you are hoping to prepare a lavish meal for the woman in your life who loves seafood. But if you are not passionate about what you are cooking then this will come through in your dishes. For instance, how are you possibly going to taste and flavour a dish appropriately if you are not a fan of the basic ingredients involved?
So think about why you are enrolling on a cookery course. Assess what foods you like and what you hope to achieve if you are cooking for your wife or partner. Do some research on the options available and see how they match up to your requirements. Try and find the most suitable approach for you, but don’t be intimidated by any unknowns! The whole point of attending a course is to learn new skills. And who knows, you may find some previously unearthed talents and a whole new world in your kitchen will lie before you!
